Abstract

The process of providing performance feedback for development requires a supportive feedback environment characterized by availability, quality, timeliness, credibility, and respect. An individual’s attitude toward feedback determines their receptiveness to it. 360-degree feedback provides a multi-source perspective for development. Strength-based feedback identifies and reinforces positive behaviors. Effective corrective feedback follows the SBI (Situation-Behavior-Impact) principle with the recipient’s involvement in the improvement plan. Proactive feedback-seeking behavior is facilitated by a quality relationship with the supervisor. Real-time feedback is more effective than delayed feedback. Action plans and follow-up transform information into behavioral change. A feedback culture begins with leadership by example from top management and training for all employees.
