Abstract

A successful product development process begins with identifying customer needs through the voice of the customer. Quality Function Deployment translates these needs into technical characteristics using the House of Quality. The Stage-Gate model divides the process into stages with decision gates to halt unviable projects early on. Robust design makes products insensitive to variations using statistical experiments. Rapid prototyping and market testing validate the design before large-scale production. Performance measurement using metrics such as cycle time, budget, and success rates enables continuous improvement. Early supplier involvement reduces development time and costs. Learning from completed projects through audits and benchmarking builds mature product development capabilities. The integration of all these elements results in sustainable competitive advantage.
